KRISTEN ALATORRE-MARTIN

I was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to a workaholic mother and very carefree father. At the age of two, they got divorced and I attended day care for much of my up bringing. Day Care was a very positive experience for me. it allowed me to grow in an environment where they provided markers, crayons, pencils, pens, lots of paper and paint. This is where I realized that all I cared about was art. I began drawing and painting with all of my free time and all of my school time. I cared of nothing else except for what I could create and day dream about. I was so focused on art that I was lagging behind in everything school related, but I was not concerned. With this lack of concern at such a young age, I began to fall behind early in the game. I could rarely accommodate teachers with completions of in class work or homework resulting in a lot of trouble at school. Although school was difficult, I pulled thru with the help of my step father. He drilled the importance of an education into my head and I went from the bottom of my class to the top by the time I completed high school...all the while skipping many classes to be in the art studio.

I then moved on to attend Arizona State University where I found it difficult to decide on a major. I finally narrowed it down to Drawing because in order to be a talented painter you must first master the skills and techniques of drawing. Life Drawing, Figure Drawing, soon became my favorite subject and I could be found in these classes whether I was enrolled in them or not. I became a skilled draftsman and was able to render anything I could see by the time I graduated.

As a result of such a good time, it was over all too soon and I went to work of the Phoenix Art Group which is a design center for paintings. Here I created and reproduced hundreds of paintings, from contemporary to traditional. This was a wonderful experience however there was no gratification once the painting was completed. It was simply stripped from your easel and shipped out to the client. This was not my idea of a fulfilling career so I came to Tampa, Fl, where I met up with Jeff Monsein, the founder of Splat Paint. I found this company to be extremely exciting because at the completion of a job it was visible on the face of the client and designer that they loved our work. We specialize in canvas work, murals, venetian plaster, marmarino, faux wood and marble, old and contemporary finishes, and anything art related. Thus from the beginning of my life until now I have always been an artist and plan to be for the rest of my life.
