Jack Roseman was born in 1942 in Johnstown, PA. He is primarily self taught and has created with glass as an art form since 1967. In 1974 he opened his first gallery/ studio in an old church near Johnstown. A few years later he opened his second fine craft gallery "Sassafras" in Ligonier, PA. After a workshop taught by California Glass Artist Narcissus Quagliato in "Artistic Courage", around 1980 his work took a creative leap forward . From that point on he exhibited in competitions, gallery and museum shows and won many awards. In 1981 he exhibited his glass in a one man show titled "Future Glass" at Mendolson gallery in Pittsburgh PA. Other significant shows in that period included an exhibit of contemporary Pennsylvania glass artists at The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art and in 1982 the American Craft Council's Show in Rhinebeck, NY, at that time the premier Fine Craft show in the country. Jack moved to Tarpon Springs, FL later in 1982 . He continued to exhibit at juried art festivals with his stained glass until 1985 when he concentrated his creativity on fused glass. He exhibited this work at The Coconut Grove Art Festival, the Sarasota Fine Craft Festival at the Ringling and the Gasparilla Art Festival in Tampa. This work was shown at galleries and museums including the National Showroom for Crafts in NYC. Maas Bros. Department stores and Disney World sold his fused glass jewelry as well as many other galleries and shops. Around 1990 he opened "Fusion Fine Crafts" in Tarpon Springs, during which time he focused his attention on silver jewelry. After selling the gallery he returned to stained glass. His current work shows the influences of the years he spent working with jewelry. The hand formed metal shapes, open areas, intricate air etched details and his use of rare exotic glass elements give his creations a very distinctive look. The completed compositions often evoke emotions of both well being and joy. He continues to show at Galleries and Art Festivals and to produce commissioned work for homes and businesses.
